Three
Principal Aspects of the Path with Ven. Choden Rinpoche
31 Aug
- 6 Sept
Ven. Choden Rinpoche will be visiting and teaching at Chandrakirti
Centre from August 31st to September 6th. It is a very rare and special
priviledge for Nelson and New Zealand to host such an accomplished
meditator. Born in 1933 in eastern Tibet, Choden Rinpoche was recognized
at three as the reincarnation of a very high lama. At eight he entered
Rabten Monastery, and seven years later entered Sera Je monastery
near Lhasa where he mastered the five main texts and gained the highest
degree of Lharampa Geshe. Choden Rinpoche was one of two Sera Je lamas
to debate with His Holiness the Dalai Lama during His Holiness’s Geshe
exams in Tibet prior to his exile.
During
the invasion of Tibet Choden Rinpoche stayed in a small dark room
in solitary retreat for 19 years. In 1985 he was allowed to leave
for India and has since taught for many years at Sera Je monastery
in South India, and is regarded as one of the greatest masters alive
today, particularly famed for his pure moral conduct. At Kyabje Zopa
Rinpoche's request he has taught at FPMT centres worldwide. His great
insight into the Dharma, and his peerless and compassionate conduct
have inspired many western students.
Ven. Choden
Rinpoche is a teacher of Lama Zopa Rinpoche, Geshe Tashi Tsering and
Geshe Wangchen and is one of the greatest lamas in our world at this
time. It our extreme good fortune to have him visit New Zealand and
Chandrakirti Center for the first time – So be sure to meet him and
create a profound connection to the Dharma.
